Deputy Communications Director

The Deputy Communications Director in the Office of Delaware Governor Matt Meyer supports the Communications Director in advancing the Governor’s priorities and serves in the second most senior role on the Communications Team.

Responsibilities

  • Supports development of a communications plan that identifies strategic opportunities for the Governor to amplify priorities, messaging, and the Administration’s agenda
  • Serves as the senior writer for the Office of Communications; establishes and maintains a content calendar for social media in coordination with events, press releases, speeches, and interviews
  • Writes and edits content across platforms, including social media, newsletters, scripts, speeches, and event memos
  • Researches and prepares event memos, briefings, and other materials as needed or requested, submitting them in a timely manner
  • Collaborates with digital media staff in the Governor’s Office, with support from the Communications Director, to publish videos and graphics across social media platforms
  • Identifies and develops consistent messaging within the department and across agencies and partners
  • Reports to the Communications Director. This role has no direct reports or supervisory responsibilities, and will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience in a communications environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing and executing a comprehensive communications plan
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends, and travel throughout the state and region, as needed
