Proclamation #3 – Observance Of Delaware Girls And Women In Sports Day

Whereas, women and girls in sports have demonstrated extraordinary skill, dedication, and perseverance, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of athletes; and

Whereas, Delaware has a proud tradition of outstanding female athletes, coaches, officials, and leaders who have excelled at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels; and

Whereas, participation in sports provides opportunities for leadership, teamwork, and personal growth that empowers women and girls, on and off the field; and

Whereas, athletic involvement is one of the most effective avenues to encourage girls to develop healthy exercise habits at a young age; and

Whereas, continued effort is needed to ensure equal access and representation in sports; and

Whereas, we are proud to honor the achievements and contributions of all female athletes, coaches, and officials who have enriched Delaware’s sports.

Now, Therefore, I, Matthew Meyer, Governor,
do hereby declare February 7th, 2025, as

DELAWARE GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY

in the State of Delaware, and urge all citizens to recognize the importance of sports and fitness in the lives of all girls, and women in Delaware
