Proclamation In Recognition of National Farmer’s Day
Whereas, Delaware farm families are pillars of our state, demonstrating innovation and dedication in the face of a changing climate, evolving technologies, and stalled markets. Their contributions extend beyond the fields, enriching our communities and economy by providing food, fiber, and stewardship of our land; and
Whereas, the State of Delaware is proud of our agricultural heritage, celebrating the range of fresh and nutrient-rich produce harvested April through December, with our top product — chicken and other animal proteins — grown year-round; and
Whereas, building capacity across the food supply chain strengthens our food system and is essential to increasing market outlets for farmers and improving food access in urban and rural communities across the state; and
Whereas, as a critical part of the small business economy, Delaware recognizes farmers and supporting sectors such as butchers, processors, canneries, aggregators, haulers, food pantries, community-based organizations, food retailers, schools, senior centers, and community centers that make up the food supply chain and source locally; and
Whereas, Feeding America reports that one in eight adults faces hunger, and Delaware Health & Social Services reports that one in ten adults has diabetes. Agriculture and improved food and nutrition access remain among our key tools to address these challenges; and
Whereas, the continued success of Delaware’s agriculture sector depends on supporting future generations of farmers through effective land use practices and access to resources and markets; and
Whereas, National Farmer’s Day is officially observed on October 12 each year to recognize and uplift the vital role of farmers across our state.
Now, therefore, I, Matthew Meyer, Governor,
do hereby recognize October 12, 2025, as
NATIONAL FARMER’S DAY
APPROVED this 12th of October 2025.
Matthew Meyer
