Office of the Governor Proclamation In Recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Whereas, breast cancer is the most common cancer globally, with approximately 2.3 million new cases diagnosed each year, representing one in eight cancer cases and accounting for a quarter of all cancers in women; and
Whereas, despite advances in treatment and awareness, breast cancer continues to claim lives—particularly in resource-constrained settings, where nearly 70% of global breast cancer mortality occurs; and
Whereas, health system barriers, low levels of public awareness, and limited access to early detection services contribute to late-stage diagnoses and poor outcomes; and
Whereas, breast cancer not only affects individuals but also families and communities, with premature mortality leading to significant social and emotional impacts, including the loss of mothers and caregivers; and
Whereas, the State of Delaware recognizes the importance of education, early detection, equitable access to care, and continued research in the fight against breast cancer; and
Whereas, Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity to honor survivors, remember those we have lost, encourage screenings and early detection, and recommit ourselves to supporting those affected by this disease.
Now, therefore, we, Matthew Meyer, Governor, and Kyle Evans Gay, Lieutenant Governor,
do hereby recognize October 2025 as
Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the State of Delaware
and reaffirm our commitment to raising awareness, supporting research, and promoting access to life-saving care for all.
APPROVED this 13th of October 2025.
Matthew Meyer
Governor
