Coast Guard Silver Lifesaving Medal Ceremony

What: Governor John Carney will deliver remarks at the Coast Guard Silver Lifesaving Medal Ceremony, which will be posthumously awarded to the family of Michael Manley. Mr. Manley passed away tragically while rescuing his stepson, who was caught in a rip current, during a trip to Virginia Beach in 2015. The Silver Lifesaving Medal is the Coast Guard’s second highest award and is unique as it can be awarded to both civilian and military members. Only around 1900 Silver Lifesaving medals have been awarded since its creation in 1874, and it is one of the only military awards that is made of precious medal.

Recognizing Great Outdoors Month

ITWorks is an award winning 16-week job training program that offers free, immersive IT training to young adults who have not yet completed a Bachelor’s degree. Graduates gain a marketable skill set, improved confidence, leadership abilities, and a broad understanding of the nonprofit community and its interactions.
