Chief of Staff is Announced

Governor-elect John Carney today announced that his long-time aide, Doug Gramiak, will serve as Chief of Staff in his gubernatorial administration.

“Being chief of staff may be the hardest job in state government, and it’s certainly one of the most important. I’m excited that Doug has agreed to take on this critical role in my administration. He brings both the political and policy skills we need to put into action our plans to create jobs and improve our schools. And he’ll be a real asset in working with the legislature as we move quickly to address our state’s budget challenges,” Carney said.

Gramiak is a former executive director of Education Voters of Delaware, a non-profit advocacy group created to build community support for public education. He currently works at Young Conaway Public Strategies, LLC. Gramiak previously worked as the political editor at The News Journal after starting his career as a sports writer and editorial editor at the Delaware County Daily Times (PA). He was Carney’s Chief of Staff in the Lieutenant Governor’s Office from 2001 to 2009. He then served as Carney’s State Director in his Congressional Office from 2011 to 2014. Gramiak is a graduate of Swarthmore College. He and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Carter and Margo.
