Bill Signing – House Bill 235

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney will sign House Bill 235. This bill encourages spaying, neutering, and vaccination in order to limit the number of unwanted cats and protect the public from rabies and other diseases carried by unvaccinated animals. Over time, this would ideally reduce the community cat population in Delaware by preventing their reproduction. HA 1 to HB 235 prevents the relocation of any free roaming or feral cat to any coastal area recognized to be located within a migratory bird flyway, such as Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, and Fort DuPont.

SUN Behavioral Delaware’s Ribbon Cutting and Open House

WHAT: Governor John Carney will deliver remarks at the ribbon cutting and open house for SUN Behavioral Delaware, in Georgetown. SUN Behavioral Delaware is a 90-bed psychiatric hospital that will provide a full continuum of specialized care, including inpatient and day hospital services for those suffering from mental health illness and substance use disorders. SUN Behavioral Delaware offers specialized programs for children, adolescents, adults and seniors.

DHSS Launches START Initiative to Engage More Delawareans Suffering from Substance Use Disorder in Treatment and Wraparound Social Services

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney will join Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long, U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester, Senator Stephanie Hansen, DHSS Secretary Dr. Kara Odom Walker and others as the Department of Health and Social Services introduces the START (Substance Use Treatment and Recovery Transformation) Initiative. The START Initiative is designed to engage more Delawareans suffering from substance use disorder in treatment, while also meeting their accompanying needs for housing, employment, education and other wraparound services. A press conference to introduce the initiative will be followed by a forum in which invited stakeholders can learn more about START.
