Tyler’s Camp at Castle Hills Elementary is SummerCollab’s four-week-long academy for the Colonial School District’s students, grades 4-5. SUSSEX COUNTY: Announcement on Expansion of High-Speed Broadband Service

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney will travel to Sussex County to highlight the importance of high speed broadband networks in our state to drive economic competitiveness, improve educational opportunities and enhance quality of life for Delawareans. The Governor will announce the State’s plans to further expand broadband in Kent and Sussex counties at an event in Seaford at 2 p.m.

Stop 1 – Meeting with Internet Providers: Delaware Electric Cooperative

WHAT: Governor Carney will meet with representatives from Delaware Electric Cooperative (DEC) to see how DEC has been using the fiber backbone to promote economic development and connect their 26 substations across the state. DEC and Lightower (now Crown Castle) worked closely to design a new network that would be custom built throughout the State of Delaware.

Stop 2 – Broadband Announcement

WHAT: Governor Carney will announce the State’s plans to further expand broadband access to underserved areas across Delaware. Governor Carney will also tour a vertical asset (radio tower) and meet participants from the Delaware Broadband Fund Phase Two initiative pilot program. As part of DTI’s efforts to promote fixed wireless broadband solutions and reach underserved populations in rural areas, the City of Seaford partnered with Bloosurf to launch a pilot project that offered free service to customers within eight miles of the wireless access points.

2018 U.S. Cyber Challenge Camp Graduation Ceremony

WHAT: Governor John Carney will deliver remarks at the 2018 U.S. Cyber Challenge Camp Graduation Ceremony in Dover. The mission of the US Cyber Challenge (USCC) is to significantly reduce the shortage in the cyber workforce by serving as the premier program to identify, attract, recruit and place the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. 2018 marks the ninth year of Delaware’s participation in the program and is a joint effort through the Delaware Coordinating Council.
