Delaware Changing Lives

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney and First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney will join national, state and local elected officials, health care professionals and advocates for a celebration of Delaware Changing Lives. The initiative works closely with public schools, mental health services, social service programs, veterans affairs, businesses, and others, to take proactive steps to reduce the human and societal costs of rampant levels of stress and trauma in everyday life. The nonprofit GIFT has helped spearhead the coalition, working closely with science-based systems encompassing trauma recovery, social emotional learning, mindfulness/stress reduction training, and early childhood development (focusing on ages 0 to 3). Delaware is the first state to set up a statewide delivery system to mitigate trauma and stress that is affordable and self-sustaining. Over the past 18 months, more than 3,000 Delawareans have already received training under this initiative.

At this event, four Delawareans whose lives have been changed by trauma relief and mindfulness will share their stories including a Vietnam veteran, an elementary school teacher, a cancer survivor and an addiction treatment professional.
