Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Receives Operational Excellence Award

This event is open to the press

WHAT: Governor John Carney will deliver remarks at an award ceremony, where the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for outstanding service to Delaware’s veterans and their families. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs established this awards program for state and tribal cemeteries in May, 2018. This awards program recognizes outstanding service to veterans and their family members by meeting the highest standards in all areas of operations.

Governor Carney to Recognize Employers for Supporting Military Service Members

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney will join the Joint Military Affairs Committee (JMAC) of the State Chamber and New Castle County Chamber along with the Military Affairs Committee of the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce to dedicate the Warrior Friendly Business plaque to Delmarva Power and Waste Masters. The Warrior Friendly award is given to employers, one large business and one small business, that support military service members in the workplace through both hiring practices and community engagement. In August, Delmarva Power and Waste Masters were recognized at the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Annual Awards Banquet.

Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Awards

WHAT: Governor John Carney will honor 23 individuals and groups with the 2018 Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Award. The recipients will be recognized for significant contributions, engagement and impact in diverse activities, including mentoring children, supporting people with disabilities, protecting the environment, and assisting seniors, people who are homeless and veterans. The Governor’s Outstanding Volunteer Service Awards are sponsored by the Office of the Governor, the Department of Health and Social Services, Division of State Service Centers, the State Office of Volunteerism, as well as the Governor’s Commission on Community and Volunteer Service.
