2018 National Lacrosse Classic

WHAT: Governor John Carney will give remarks at the 2018 National Lacrosse Classic opening ceremony at DE Turf Sports Complex. Now in its 11th year, the National Lacrosse Classic brings together the top youth and high school lacrosse players and coaches from across the country who have qualified to represent their state and have showcased their talent through numerous regional competitions.

Governor Carney, Commissioner Phelps to Release Final Report of DOC Special Assistant

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney and Delaware Department of Correction Commissioner Perry Phelps will release the final report of the DOC Special Assistant. Governor Carney, Commissioner Phelps and Special Assistant Claire DeMatteis will be available for questions following the report’s release. This report will detail progress in the Department of Correction’s efforts to implement recommendations made by the Independent Review into the events of February 1 and 2, 2017 at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center.

Following the press conference, a tour of the culinary arts and horticulture facilities will be available for reporters who RSVP by noon on Monday, July 16 to Jayme Gravell at Jayme.Gravell@delaware.gov

Governor Carney to Present Heritage Award to Harvey B. Rubenstein Esq.

This event is open to the press.

WHAT: Governor John Carney will honor Harvey B. Rubenstein Esq. with the Governor’s Heritage Award in a ceremony set to take place Tuesday, July 17, 2018. Established in 2003 by the Office of the Secretary of State, the Governor’s Heritage Award is presented to individuals who have made a distinguished contribution to the recognition, preservation, and celebration of Delaware’s heritage. Mr. Rubenstein has served as a member of the Delaware Heritage Commission for over 40 years, has authored numerous books about Delaware History, served as the president of both the Delaware State Bar Association and the Delaware Bar Foundation, and is an experienced Historian with an in-depth understanding and social and cultural history of Delaware.
