These are the ways we are making life better for the people
of Delaware. These accomplishments are ones any administration
would be proud of, regardless of the economic
situation.
The last two years have been challenging ones. In the 1990s,
the question when it came to the budget was often, "Where do we
spend all this extra money?" For the past two years, the question
has been, "How do we keep running government now that all the
money has gone away?"
For two years, we have answered that question in ways that
have not drastically impacted the people of Delaware. Unlike
other states, we have gotten through the last two years without
raising taxes, slashing services, laying off employees or raiding
our emergency reserves. We may be the only governor and
lieutenant governor in the country who are able to say that.
Through it all, we have been humbled by and thankful for the
support we have received from the people of Delaware, and that
support has strengthened us as we have served.
We look forward to the next two years and the challenges and
achievements that lie ahead for us all.
