November 2, 2015 - In an effort to right a historic injustice, Governor Jack Markell today issued a pardon for Samuel D. Burris, a free black man from Delaware, who, on Nov. 2, 1847, was convicted of aiding slaves escaping from their owners.
August 12, 2015 - Responding to the need for increased addiction treatment and recovery services statewide in the face of an epidemic that claims a life from overdose every other day, Governor Markell joined Department of Health and Social Services Secretary Rita Landgraf and other leaders today to detail the state’s priorities for the $4.45 million in new resources provided by the Fiscal Year 2016 budget.
April 29, 2015 - Downtown revitalization efforts in Seaford, Dover and Wilmington will soon get a boost, as Governor Jack Markell today announced the recipients of the Delaware’s inaugural round of Downtown Development District (DDD) Grants.
March 12, 2015 - Calling for the elimination of repetitive and ineffective assessments, Governor Markell today launched a review of tests administered by the state, districts, and individual schools with the goal of decreasing the testing burden on students and teachers and increasing the time available for teaching.

December 16, 2014 - Delaware has been awarded $35 million in federal funds that will fuel efforts to improve patient care, support the health of all Delawareans, and reduce the costs of care.
October 10, 2014 - Joined by Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) Secretary Rita Landgraf, DHSS Division of Public Health (DPH) Director Dr. Karyl Rattay, and members of the public, Governor Markell spoke at the launch of preparations for the 2014-2015 flu season at a New Castle County Community Clinic site.
July 31, 2014 - Governor Markell joined DelDOT Secretary Shailen Bhatt for the reopening of the southbound lanes of the I-495 bridge after its closure earlier in the year.
January 30, 2014 - Joined by members of the General Assembly, Governor Markell signed into law Senate Bill 6, which will raise the minimum wage in Delaware to $8.25 per hour in two increments. The state’s hourly minimum wage will go up 50 cents to $7.75 on June 1, 2014. On June 1, 2015, it will go up another 50 cents to $8.25 per hour, making it $1 higher than the current federal minimum wage.
October 16, 2013 - The Governor joined Bloom Energy Principal Co-Founder & CEO KR Sridhar and others to celebrate the opening of Bloom’s new Delaware plant. Bloom Energy, an innovative fuel cell company, is producing Bloom Boxes at its new plant, the site of the former Chrysler factory. Bloom generates clean, highly efficient power from natural gas or other fuels.
September 18, 2013 - The Governor joined with ShopRite leadership and employees to present a proclamation recognizing September 18th as ShopRite Partners in Caring Day. Governor Markell also bagged groceries at check-out counters in support of Hunger Action Month to bring awareness to the issue of hunger.
August 5, 2013 - Governor Markell signed House Bill 190. The bill will facilitate the growth of Delaware licensed farm wineries, brewery-pubs, microbreweries, and craft distilleries by allowing them to expand their businesses within and outside of the State. The bill will also permit brewery-pubs to distill products that are not malt-based.
June 11, 2013 - Governor Markell met with President Ollanta Humala of Peru, agreeing on cooperation and marking Peru’s first partnership with a U.S. State. The agreements will strengthen the Port of Wilmington's status as the leading North American Port for fresh produce and bring Peruvian students, particularly those in the STEM sectors to Delaware.
May 21, 2013 - The Governor joined William Penn agriculture and culinary students to view the crops and learn how the land is maintained. The Penn Farm is a program of the William Penn High School Agriscience Department and provides real life experiences in food production, marketing, soil sciences, plant science, landscaping design and construction and a variety of other experiences.
April 17, 2013 - The Governor and DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara helped dedicate the 15-megawatt Milford Solar Farm, the largest solar installation in Delaware. The project is located on 80 acres of land in Kent County and created approximately 100 jobs during construction.
