July 31, 2014 - Governor Markell joined DelDOT Secretary Shailen Bhatt for the reopening of the southbound lanes of the I-495 bridge after its closure earlier in the year.
January 30, 2014 - Joined by members of the General Assembly, Governor Markell signed into law Senate Bill 6, which will raise the minimum wage in Delaware to $8.25 per hour in two increments. The state’s hourly minimum wage will go up 50 cents to $7.75 on June 1, 2014. On June 1, 2015, it will go up another 50 cents to $8.25 per hour, making it $1 higher than the current federal minimum wage.
October 16, 2013 - The Governor joined Bloom Energy Principal Co-Founder & CEO KR Sridhar and others to celebrate the opening of Bloom’s new Delaware plant. Bloom Energy, an innovative fuel cell company, is producing Bloom Boxes at its new plant, the site of the former Chrysler factory. Bloom generates clean, highly efficient power from natural gas or other fuels.
September 18, 2013 - The Governor joined with ShopRite leadership and employees to present a proclamation recognizing September 18th as ShopRite Partners in Caring Day. Governor Markell also bagged groceries at check-out counters in support of Hunger Action Month to bring awareness to the issue of hunger.
August 5, 2013 - Governor Markell signed House Bill 190. The bill will facilitate the growth of Delaware licensed farm wineries, brewery-pubs, microbreweries, and craft distilleries by allowing them to expand their businesses within and outside of the State. The bill will also permit brewery-pubs to distill products that are not malt-based.
June 11, 2013 - Governor Markell met with President Ollanta Humala of Peru, agreeing on cooperation and marking Peru’s first partnership with a U.S. State. The agreements will strengthen the Port of Wilmington's status as the leading North American Port for fresh produce and bring Peruvian students, particularly those in the STEM sectors to Delaware.
May 21, 2013 - The Governor joined William Penn agriculture and culinary students to view the crops and learn how the land is maintained. The Penn Farm is a program of the William Penn High School Agriscience Department and provides real life experiences in food production, marketing, soil sciences, plant science, landscaping design and construction and a variety of other experiences.
April 17, 2013 - The Governor and DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara helped dedicate the 15-megawatt Milford Solar Farm, the largest solar installation in Delaware. The project is located on 80 acres of land in Kent County and created approximately 100 jobs during construction.
