Markell, Division Of The Arts Announce Grant Recipients For The 2010 Fiscal Year

WILMINGTON -- The Delaware Division of the Arts has announced Monday its annual grant awards for Fiscal Year 2010. Eighty-four organizations throughout the state received 99 grants, totaling $1.47 million. These grants support projects and programs of arts organizations, community organizations, and educational organizations. Funds are used for arts programs taking place in performance halls, theaters, museums, art centers, libraries and schools. These arts programs bring a wide variety of arts experiences to communities throughout the state. An additional $370,400 was awarded to 13 Delaware arts organizations to preserve jobs as part of the federal stimulus funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“The arts play an important role in our communities and in our economy,” Gov. Markell said. “Delaware has a vibrant arts community and these grants will ensure that it stays that way.”

While the Division received a $216,400 reduction in funding for the Fiscal Year 2010 budget passed by the General Assembly on June 30, 2009, the newly created Delaware Cultural Asset Fund helped to mitigate what otherwise could have been a more significant decrease in funding for all grant categories. A complete listing of Fiscal Year 2010 grant awards, as well as a description of grant categories, can be found on the attached pages and on our website at http://www.artsdel.org/grants/granthistory.shtml
