U.S., Delaware Flags To Be Lowered
Flags Lowered in Recognition of Memorial Day
Dover – Governor Ruth Ann Minner announced today that Delaware flags should be lowered to half staff on Monday morning, May 26, in recognition of Memorial Day. The flags will be raised at noon Monday. This is in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Bush to lower the U.S. flags on Monday, which he has declared as a day of prayer for permanent peace.
“Memorial Day is more than a holiday from work—it is a time to remember our nation’s fallen soldiers, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the protection of the freedoms we enjoy today,” said Governor Ruth Ann Minner. “We must never forget those who gave their lives while protecting and serving the people of our state and our nation.”
The President also proclaimed 11:00 a.m. on Monday as a time to unite in prayer, and he urged all Americans to observe the National Moment of Remembrance beginning at 3:00 p.m.
As with the U.S. flags, the Delaware flags will return to full staff at noon Monday.
