Gov. Minner Signs Executive Order #98, Establishing the Leadership for Achievement in Education Committee
Dover – Today Governor Ruth Ann Minner announced that she has established the Leadership for Achievement in Education (LEAD) Committee to build on the continuing educational initiatives of her Administration through a public/private partnership with Vision 2015 supported by funding from the Delaware Business Roundtable.
“The Vision 2015 group worked diligently for over a year to bring their best creative thinking to enhance, support, and continue the reforms we have implemented in Delaware,” said Governor Minner. “Many of the proposals, including those that the LEAD Committee will undertake, are consistent with our priorities, and it is clear that we all share a common goal—excellent schools.”
The LEAD Committee, composed of public and private sector leaders, will undertake the following projects that support the Vision 2015 Plan for education reform in Delaware:
• Development of a one-page, plain language summary of key performance measures for every public school, district, and the state;
• An independent cost analysis of the state’s K-12 public education budget; and
• Research to determine optimal alternatives for the state and school districts to generate and distribute funding and increase adequacy and equity, which includes consideration of a weighted student funding plan.
Marvin N. Schoenhals, Chairman of WSFS Financial Corporation and Chair of Vision 2015, announced that 100 percent of the Business Roundtable members have made financial commitments to the goals of Vision 2015. “These contributions demonstrate our commitment to deeply engage in a partnership to improve Delaware’s schools,” said Schoenhals.
Delaware business leaders have pledged $3 million to begin implementing the Vision 2015 recommendations, including the launch of the Delaware Virtual School and the independent cost analysis. There will also be operational support to initiate the Vision Network of schools and districts that are committed to implementing the Vision 2015 recommendations.
