Comm. Cordrey Named President of National Conference of State Liquor Administrators Association

Dover John H. Cordrey, Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner for the state of Delaware, was elected president of the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators (NCSLA) at the organization’s annual conference in Seattle, Washington earlier this month. Commissioner Cordrey is the third administrator from Delaware to serve as president of NCSLA.

“Jack does an outstanding job here in Delaware working with law enforcement officials and the alcohol industry to ensure that our laws are followed and enforced every step of the way,” said Governor Ruth Ann Minner. “His leadership has helped Delaware become a national model for how we administer our enforcement policies and work cooperatively with the private sector to keep Delaware safe. Jack is a great representative for Delaware, and I look forward to hearing about his future success as president of NCSLA.”

Mr. Cordrey said that one of his main initiatives as President will be a mentoring program for new administrators and the implementation of a more formalized method of sharing information with new administrators.

NCSLA was created in 1934 after the repeal of prohibition and is comprised of liquor administrators from throughout the United States, as well as members of the alcohol industry. The purpose of the Association is to promote the enactment of effective and equitable alcoholic beverage control laws; promote the best enforcement methods; adopt uniform laws; and promote harmony between states and the federal government.

In January 2001, Commissioner Cordrey was appointed by Governor Minner and confirmed by the Senate, as Delaware’s first Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner after the General Assembly changed the laws to provide for a single Commissioner. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Cordrey was a practicing attorney in Georgetown, attorney to the Delaware Senate, and Chair of the Delaware Tax Appeal Board. He resides in Georgetown with his wife, Carol, and two sons, John and Bryan.
