Gov. Minner Names Daniel E. Kline Director of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement
Dover – Gov. Ruth Ann Minner joined David B. Mitchell, Secretary of Safety and Homeland Security, to announce the appointment of Daniel E. Kline as Director of the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE).
“Director Kline has experienced every level of involvement this division has to offer and will bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership to this position,” said Governor Minner. “I look forward to the future success of the division under Dan’s guidance.
Kline, 42, assumes command of DATE following the retirement of Donald J. Bowman. Kline, a 17-year state employee, joined DATE as a field agent in 1990. Since September 2000, he has served as supervising agent and legislative liaison for the Division. During his career, he has worked in every capacity as an agent, including firearms instructor, Police Academy instructor, field training officer, server trainer and CPR instructor. He received the Department’s Safer Delaware Award in 2001 and 2006 for exemplary employee achievement.
“He has worked his way through the ranks as an agent and thoroughly knows DATE from the bottom up. I have full faith and confidence in his ability to lead DATE and serve the residents of our state,” said Sec. Mitchell.
“In the last 17 years, I have seen many positive changes in this agency, as we have taken on more responsibilities to protect the residents of Delaware,” Director Kline said. “I now have the challenge and opportunity to continue this tradition, and it is my goal to have the most talented and professional law enforcement officers in the state. I am extremely grateful to Governor Minner and Secretary Mitchell for trusting in me and giving me the opportunity to work in this capacity.”
Director Kline holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration from Youngstown State University in Ohio. He began his law enforcement career with the Dewey Beach Police Department in 1986. He then worked as a Delaware State Parks Ranger for two years before joining DATE. Director Kline and his wife, Trish, are the proud parents of one son, Logan.
