Gov. Minner Creates Independent Panel to Review Findings of Department of Correction Report
Dover – Governor Ruth Ann Minner Wednesday created an independent panel of community leaders to review the findings of the Department of Correction Internal Affairs report on the July 12 hostage incident at the Delaware Correctional Center.
The Department of Correction released its report on the July 12 incident earlier Wednesday. The report is available to the public on the DOC website at www.state.de.us/correct .
The independent panel is tasked with reporting on any needed improvements in security and procedure by Jan. 31.
“This task force will assess the security issues at the Delaware Correctional Center and, in addition to reviewing the report, also will review the findings by the Delaware State Police and state Department of Justice concerning this incident,” Gov. Minner said. “I received a copy of the report late yesterday afternoon and have found it to be thorough and complete. However, considering the serious nature of this event and to ensure we have multiple perspectives, I have decided that this independent review should be initiated immediately.”
“I want to make sure we get as much input as possible so we can make any needed improvements to daily operations at DCC. I have asked that the work of this independent review be completed by January 31,” Gov. Minner said. “I am very appreciative that so many members of our community with such stature and experience are willing to serve our state on this project.”
