Tickets Available for 43rd Annual Governor’s Prayer Breakfast
Dr. Ben Carson, Inspirational Author and Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at John Hopkins, To Speak
Dover – Governor Ruth Ann Minner will host the 43rd Annual Governor’s Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, April 24, at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.
Dr. Ben Carson, the well-known Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore will speak at the breakfast. Dr. Carson is the author of “Gifted Hands,” “Think Big,” which encourages others to develop their intellectual potential and “The Big Picture,” offering an up-close look at a professional surgeon’s life and his living a life of faith in a complex world.
“We are very fortunate to have Dr. Carson share his message of hope for people of all ages and backgrounds to be, and do, their best,” Gov. Minner said. “The prayer breakfast gives an opportunity for all denominations including our elected officials, members of the judiciary, members of the military, spiritual leaders, representatives from communities and educational institutions to join together to ask for guidance in the pursuit of our common goal of service.”
Dr. Carson is a widely-sought speaker, who delivers a message of faith in the human spirit and the remarkable ability of the human brain. He says that his life is proof that perseverance, prayer, and self-respect, combined with a devotion to acquiring knowledge, can overcome any obstacles in one’s way. He holds numerous honors and awards, including more than 20 honorary doctorate degrees.
Doors will open at 6:30 a.m. for the buffet breakfast, and the program will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Modern Maturity Center on Forrest Avenue in Dover. Tickets are available upon request by mailing a check payable to “Governor’s Prayer Breakfast” for $11 per person to Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, P. O. Box 988, Dover, DE 19903 by April 17, 2003. Because seating is limited, reserve early.
