Gov. Minner Appoints New High-Level Council To Advise Her On Economic Development
Wilmington – Governor Ruth Ann Minner, acting to preserve Delaware’s economic success, created a high-level council of business people, academics and state officials to advise her on attracting new industries to Delaware and retaining and growing the companies now located here.
The Strategic Economic Council, created by Executive Order No. 3, will be chaired by Dupont Senior Vice President Stacey J. Mobley and will consist of 22 members, including representatives of financial services, life sciences, agriculture, information technology, chemicals, environmental advocacy, labor, the state and local chambers and the University of Delaware. The lieutenant governor, the state treasurer, the secretary of finance, the director of the Delaware Economic Development Office, a member of the Governor’s staff and members of the House of Representatives and the Senate will also serve.
“One reason that Delaware has enjoyed so much economic success in past years is that government has listened to the business community, and government has responded quickly when opportunities appeared,” Gov. Minner said. “We did not become the world center for incorporation by accident. We did not become a world center for the financial services industry or an emerging leader in the biotechnology field by accident. It happened because our smartest business people and our top elected officials recognized that these would be huge growth areas in the national economy, that they would bring the kinds of jobs to Delaware that we wanted for our citizens.”
Stacey J. Mobley is senior vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel of DuPont, a $27 billion global science company, and a member of the company's five-member Office of the Chief Executive. Mr. Mobley is a member of the board of directors of the Wilmington Trust Company.
I am confident that under Stacey’s leadership, I will get the best strategic advice possible from this Council,” Gov. Minner said.
State Treasurer Jack Markell, Secretary of Finance David Singleton and Lieutenant Governor John Carney will automatically serve on the council. Gov. Minner named Matthew P. Denn, her legal counsel, to represent the Governor’s Office.
Other members will be named in the coming weeks.
